About users and roles

TIBCO Cloud™ Spotfire® offers a solution for data exploration and communication of gained insights for a team. In a team, the account owner invites users and assigns users to one of three roles; Analyst, Business Author, or Consumer.

The roles define if a user can author, edit, and share analyses files or if they are a user of those analyses files.

  • An Account owner has financial responsibility for the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire subscription and is responsible for inviting users to the team. The Account owner also assigns users, depending on the level of authoring required, to one of the following roles: Analyst, Business Author, or Consumer.
  • An Analyst can author and edit analyses files and share the files in the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire. The Analyst has access to both, the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Business Author, a web client, and the Downloading TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Analyst. The Analyst, using the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Analyst, is the only users who can configure additional connections to data sources.
  • A Business Author, much like the Analyst, can author and edit analyses files, however, a user in this role cannot create connections to data sources. The Business Author has access to the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Business Author, a web client.
  • A Consumer has access to the TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Consumer web client and can view, and to some extent, interact with analyses created by an Analyst or a Business Author.

The library folder, where you store analyses files, can be used to define who can view or collaborate on an analysis. If the analysis is stored in a folder configured with the type Private, then no other user can view files in that folder or even the folder name. To share an analysis to Internet users, you can configure the folder to have the type Public. In this case, Anonymous users—that is, people without a TIBCO Cloud Spotfire account—can access Public folders. For finer-grained control, you can configure a folder type to Shared and then invite people by email address. The people you invite must create a TIBCO Cloud Spotfire account. If you are a member of a TIBCO Cloud Spotfire team, you can use the shared Team area to collaborate on team analyses files.

After an account owner signs up for a TIBCO Cloud Spotfire account, the account owner must invite members to their team and assign roles from the pool of available seats.
